In the latest version of FieldLink, you’ll find a variety of new features and enhancements that improve core layout and scanning workflows, reducing the number of button clicks and increasing the usability of key workflows. In v6.9 we’ve added foundational capabilities to improve the GNSS user experience making it a significantly more attractive offering for construction. By adding Local Coordinate System support for Trimble CenterPoint RTX® and introducing Fast Precision GNSS observations, users gain an unparalleled level of efficiency and simplicity to drive their field layout and QA processes. With new adjustable settings, users can optimize their X7 or X9 experience to prioritize speed, quality, or context, all while empowering them to share more detailed analysis directly from the field.
KEY UPDATES
Local Coordinate Support for CenterPoint RTX
With the addition of local coordinate support for RTX corrections, GNSS in FieldLink has been made significantly easier to use. Local coordinate systems for RTX corrections can be accessed in the same manner as VRS corrections for local coordinate systems.
Note: Local coordinate support for RTX corrections require the user to perform a site calibration. Since RTX is time dependent, the user will be required to perform site calibrations at regular
intervals to alleviate the positional drift encountered with RTX over time.
Scan-to-BIM point cloud inspections have been enhanced in FieldLink v6.9 to provide both positive and negative deviations from the model, as opposed to just absolute values. Additionally, new to FieldLink v6.9, scanning users can now perform in-field scan-to-bim analyses and export colorized inspection point clouds directly from the field. This enables more action in-field with less work and time required in the office to prepare critical deliverables.
T10x (2024) Hardware Support
FieldLink v6.9 offers further support for the all-new T10x (2024) Trimble rugged tablet.
LAYOUT FEATURES & ENHANCEMENTS
Disable Auto Lock while using Ri with Sticker Targets
This new capability allows users to disable auto lock of retro-reflective sticker targets while using the Ri, great for enabling more manual control of the instrument in instances where the target isn’t on a perfectly flat surface or is damaged due to site wear and tear. This capability enables users to take over and still benefit from their site control.
CSV/TXT Imports from Project Creation Page
In FieldLink v6.9, users can now import CSV and TXT files directly from the job management screen. This update enhances the data import process to reduce button clicks for field users.
Create from Model: Center of Circle over 3 Points
This enhancement makes point creation simpler when working with circular entities exported via DWG format. Currently, when circles are imported into FieldLink in DWG format, they are not recognized as one entity but rather as many individual line segments, impacting the performance of certain “Create from Model” features. This update addresses this issue by enabling users to create a point at the center of any 3 points along an object.
Wall Penetration Improvement
This update further empowers field users to more easily adjust and find solutions while onsite, reducing rework and support required from office teams. Previously in FieldLink, lines that didn’t extend through a wall prevented the Wall Penetration feature from being used. This update allows users to easily extend a line or select an existing line for wall penetration in the event that the line geometry doesn’t intersect with the wall.
Export Layer Structure when Exporting Points and Lines in DWG
This update enhances the organizational structure of exports to DWG by allowing users to leverage the existing layer structure that points and lines were organized with while using FieldLink. This enables a more seamless export process and better aligns the field and office experience to reduce confusion and miscommunication.
SCANNING FEATURES & ENHANCEMENTS
Disable Auto-Level While Scanning
This update enables users to turn off the X-series’ Auto-Level capabilities from within FieldLink to help reduce time between scans. Note - if auto-level is disabled, users will be required to manually register their scans and will be unable to use automatic registration capabilities.
Adjustable Tolerance Settings for Scan Refine Report
Allows users to customize the tolerances of the scan refine report settings.
Format SD Card within FieldLink
Users can now format their SD cards directly through FieldLink when using X-Series scanners. This helps to reduce any friction in the process of using FieldLink for scanners and ensures that field users are not disrupted when using new SD cards.
X7/X9 Grid Line Setup
Scanning users can now perform station setups using the Grid Line setup method.
GNSS FEATURES & ENHANCEMENTS
GNSS Site Calibration and Residual Improvements
This update improves the GNSS site calibration process to be more user-friendly and intuitive. In FieldLink v6.9, site calibration information is more clearly presented to help users better understand and interpret the quality of their setup. Similarly to other conventional total station setup methods, this update also enables users to configure and manually edit what observation information is included in their setup.
Fast vs High Precision GNSS Measurements
Similar to the workflows seen with robotic total stations, FieldLink v6.9 now allows users to select between Fast Precision and High Precision measurements styles with GNSS instruments. High precision measurements are recommended to achieve the best results and will take an average of multiple individual measurements to reduce errors. However, for users seeking to rapidly collect data, Fast Precision enables more instantaneous observations.
Note - High Precision mode is the recommended measurement method for any precise layout and collection workflows, Fast Precision should be reserved for instances where accuracy is less critical.
R780 Subscription Configuration
FieldLink v6.9 further supports R780 GNSS instruments under firmware subscription models.
World Wide and Polar Coordinate Support for CSM
FieldLink v6.9 now supports Coordinate Systems and Datums that are specific to regions in Northern and Southern Latitudes and also supports world wide coordinate systems such as UTM.
